Orphanage and Old Age Home for Senior Citizens

Description

The rights of old age persons are no different from the rights of any other person. Due to their physical and mental frailty or disability, they need proper care, attention, and supervision. Discrimination, neglect, abuse, etc., based on age, often pose a threat to the realization of their rights. Moreover, abandonment and destitution also lead to numerous physical, psychological, and social issues that challenge their sense of self and capacity to live happily. The problem is more severe among the low-income communities where the lack of resources and access further aggravates their conditions.

As much as it is essential for everyone, good quality of life is specifically crucial for old age persons and young children dealing with chronic health conditions or significant life changes. In recent years, old age homes comprising of homes, facilities, and services designed to serve the changing needs of seniors over time have gained acceptance among the significant section of the society.

Through this project, Samast Mahajan aims to build an orphanage and old age home for children and old age persons, respectively. The project seeks to take care of their health, food, hygiene, nutrition, and shelter related needs. Access to adequate medical care will be ensured to counter the adverse effects of illness or disability through regular medical health checkups and designated medical staff. The food and nutritious related need of the senior citizens will also be adequately taken care of.

Thus, the project aims to establish an appropriate mechanism to provide need-based maintenance to the children and senior citizens through all this. The cost of providing care to one individual is 36,000/- per annum.

Problem Statement

In simple societies, catering and responding to an individual's need was easier. With the advent of neo-liberal market forces and the subsequent ushering in of complexities in our daily lives, the traditional family system has taken different forms. Though these changes have immensely impacted all age groups, senior citizens, particularly, are being flung into a sort of crisis mired with loneliness, deteriorating sense of self, isolation, loss of dignity, loss of agency, abuse, and so on. To tackle these, old age homes are cropping up across the countries to provide need-based care and support to old age persons.

Project Goal

This project will accomplish these additional goals

Shelter

The project seeks to cover the accommodation need of the old age persons and children through targeted interventions so that they are able to live a healthier and fulfilling life.

Good Medical Care

Proper, need-based, and timely interventions are a pre-condition to improve an individual's quality of life. When it comes to old age persons, consistency of care and supervision are also crucial to ensure that issues are averted through early detection. By providing the correct health services, screenings, and treatment through regular checkups and designated medical staff, the project aims to enhance the overall well-being of the old age persons.

Food and Nutrition

The intake of a nutritious meal is crucial to perform day to day functions. Food insufficiency and homelessness often go hand in hand. Therefore, by providing adequate nutritious meals, the project endeavors to help old age persons live healthier lives.

Safety and Hygiene

For old age persons, there are many matters to attend to in order make them happy, healthy, and secure. Encouraging and helping them to maintain personal hygiene and grooming is crucial to maintaining good health.
