truCSR Foundation in collaboration with the People's Mobile Hospital, Worli, Mumbai, is planning to provide dialysis treatment to patients suffering from kidney disease.

The people's Mobile Hospital is a charitable, Non Profit, Non-Communal voluntary medical organization that has completed 75 years in the service of humanity, especially for the poor, needy and afflicted, who are in the dire need of medical services and can ill-afford the same.

Dialysis is a medical procedure that helps in identifying waste and excess fluid from the blood and purifying it. An external machine is used to help the blood dispose of any harmful or waste products. The procedure involves driving the blood towards the external machine with tubes that clean the blood of all its impurities. Generally, it is the kidney's function to clean the blood and do away with harmful waste and convert it into urine, which is then passed out of the body. However, if the kidneys are infected and not functioning then a person needs dialysis.

Chronic kidney disease is the 8th largest cause of death in India and has risen 50% over 10 years. India is home to more than 10 Lakhs patients of chronic kidney diseases. More than 1.5 Lakh die every year due to this reason. Dialysis practically remains the first, and, in the majority of cases, the only option to survive. A clear majority of patients do not have access to long-term dialysis and die prematurely because of resource limitations. 

The patients usually need between 1 to 3 dialysis sessions per week. With the cost of each dialysis session ranging between Rs.500 to 1000, whose long-term costs coupled with medicines and other precautionary care can be unaffordable.
